Tim:
We had our weekly meeting this past Friday. Everything seems to be coming along just great. Still a lot of work to do and confirmations from all concerned. I will mention this portion of our discussion to you Tim, because maybe you can help us again. Doug Edwards our Sub-Committee Chairman provided a good report on the Golf Tournament. He is ready to go but need more participants. Maybe if we put this on the FORBPO website we can at least get a couple of more for him.  Its really not too late, they can send me the check to add to their Registration Form and I will add them on and pass the info to Doug. Here is how his hand outs read:  GOLF TOURNAMENT OLYMPIA HILLS GOLF CLUB at 12900 Mount Olympus Universal City, Texas 78148. To check this place out here is their web site: www.olympiahillsgolf.com you can see what a nice place this is. The handout goes on to read Friday, May 11 12NOON SIGN IN - 1PM SHOTGUN START $50.00 PER GOLFER INCLUDES BOX LUNCH. Play is open to those both retired and active. Florida Scramble: Make your own team or enter as an individual. Contract Doug Edwards at 210-658-4639 for more details. or email him at jedwards435@satx.rr.com ,

Make your check out to FORBPO AND mail it to Sam Garcia, 3628 Chestnut Ct., Cibolo, Texas 78108 (while Bob Gilson is traveling on his way out here)

Thank you,

PISTOLEROS

I was given this email address by the Sub-Committee Chairmen: Conrado Villanueva and Ramiro Ramos. If any of the pistoleros want to see what the place where the pistol shoot is taking place sort of looks like, or how far its going to be from downtown San Antonio here is the best way to find out. It's really not to late for anyone to enroll. You can send me the check since Bob Gilson is traveling and I will pass the info to the fellows running this show. Either to add it on to the present application or a new one. HERE IS THE ADDRESS: www.aplacetoshoot.com

Tel: 830-620-5898

You may want to insert this to our FORBPO web site or send this out to the membership, or just for you information in case anyone happens to ask you while Bob Gilson is traveling.

Thank you,
Sam Garcia

Letter from San Antonio, Texas

Howdy again from San Antonio!!!  My committee and I are putting the finishing touch to the arrangements for our convention in May. The pistol shoot and the golf tourney are all set and we believe those of you who are pistoleros and those of you who enjoy chasing that little ball all over are really going to enjoy those events.  The reception will be held at the St Anthony’s Hotel on Friday evening and the BBQ will be at the Buckhorn Saloon and Museum on Saturday evening.  The Buckhorn Saloon is walking distance from the St Anthony’s, not quite one city block away!!  Also, once you are done eating to your heart’s content, the Riverwalk is about 20 paces away from the Buckhorn Saloon, in case you want to continue your partying!  As I had previously mentioned, there is so much to see and do in San Antonio and all within walking distance from the hotel.

Some questions have been raised on the parking……the hotel does not own any parking.  There is parking in the hotel, but is owned by another company who also owns a parking lot about half a block from the hotel.  We are trying to negotiate some sort of deal with them and hopefully by convention time we have said deal worked out.  There are plenty of parking lots in the vicinity, some are covered and some are uncovered.  The city owns some and others are privately owned and prices may vary.

We have had a problem or question as to whether the St Anthony’s would be able to accommodate the number of attendees for our banquet.  Therefore, to play it safe we have decided to hold our banquet at the Tropicano Hotel, which is a Holiday Inn hotel.  The Tropicano has just been refurbished and is beautiful.  The room for the banquet will hold all of our attendees without anyone having to be in another room and miss all the jokes that Buck may have for us!!  The only drawback is that the Tropicano is about four blocks from the St Anthony’s, still walking distance for some of us younger, more rambunctious fellows. Under consideration is the contracting a couple of buses to move attendees to and from the St Anthony’s. The address for El Tropicano is 110 Lexington Ave., San Antonio, Texas 78205, and the telephone number is 210-223-9461. Those of you computer nerds can go to www.eltropicanohotel.com.

Bueno, enough for now.  If you have made arrangements to be here, I know you will enjoy your visit.  Those that did not will miss a good time!  SEE YOU ALL IN MAY!!!

Leo Soto and the gang

subject UPDATES ON THE CONFERENCE

MONDAY

Tim:
We have been having a committee meeting every two weeks since our Christmas break. Today we had a very good meeting and besides the many things that we talked about, we discussed the matter on the "Schedule of Events". We remembered that you had asked for an update on the place and time of the Reception, Bar-B-Q, and Banquet. Well, we CAN NOT come up with a firm date until March 30th, the due date placed on the Registration Form. According to Randy we could possibly come up with a better idea around the middle of March, and once Karen can tell us how the negotiations are going with the menus,etc..The only thing that is firm at this time is the Pistol Match and the Golf Tournament. (Ramiro Ramos and Conrado Villanueva went out this last week and fired their guns at the Pistol Range, and they feel ready to go. Doug Edwards provided Leo Soto with an excellent report on the Golf course and lots of work is being done to provide an excellent golf tournament.) However, the Reception will be on a Friday, the Bar-B-Q on a Saturday and the Banquet on a Sunday. We can probably say that the Barbecue will take place at the Buckhorn Saloon & Museum from 5:00 pm to 8 pm. The saloon is located one block of the St Anthony Hotel. The other events could be in the St.Anthony Hotel or the Holiday Inn??????

Another note of interest, Cindy Fisher attended one of our previous meetings. It seems that Carl is doing better now. She stated that she is willing to do the Bridge tournament, IF Karen could get a place, some place in the Hotel besides the Hall Ways. But she felt that we should not spend money for a big space because she did not expect more then the attendance for one table. She also suggested that maybe other games (Mexican Train, Dominos or a Chicken Fowl) would be pleasing for the ladies. If they could be encouraged to bring their own games it would work better. (Karen had said that she had some office space or something else at the the Hotel for that purpose?)

Now a question for Jim Montgomery: What is the dead line for the next Border Line? Is it going to be out to the membership before the Conference?

Tim, I don't know how much you can help with as far as sending out bits of info by e-mail, at least we could reach 50% of our attendance prior to the next BL publication. Anyhow, I guess that's the best answer we can provide for an up-date on the Schedule of Events. No update on changes of floor location for the Border Patrol Museum.

Thanks,
Sam Garcia
